ORTHOPAEDIC GROUP NAMES NEW PRESIDENT February 2007 Dr. Powell, who served in the position for the past 10 years, says that it was time for him to “pass the baton” to someone else. “I enjoyed the challenge of the job, but I felt it was time for one of my partners to step up and lead.” Dr. Shuman, who served as vice president for most of the 16 years he has been with the group, concedes that Dr. Powell will be a tough act to follow. “Ed has seen our group through significant growth and expansion during his term as president,” states Dr. Shuman. “I am amazed at how he was able to devote so much time and energy to administrative work while still maintaining a busy and successful surgical practice.” Dr. Shuman says the group plans to continue expanding, but explains that the struggle to recruit physicians to the area is an obstacle to further growth. “All across the country, medical groups are desperately competing to attract and retain well-trained physicians,” says Dr. Shuman. “Our practice has successfully recruited in the past, but the healthcare marketplace is changing rapidly, so past experience is not predictive of future success.” Dr. Shuman completed
